A historical legacy from Robert Weil
The renowned Robert Weil Winery in Kiedrich, Rheingau, has been a member of the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP) since 1907 and covers 89.80 hectares of vineyards. The history of the winery began in 1875, when Robert Weil, brother of the then pastor of Kiedrich, purchased the residence of the late Sir John Sutton and founded a winery.
A family heritage story
It began in 1867 in the Kiedrich mountain, where vineyards were already purchased. The management of the winery was passed from generation to generation. Wilhelm Weil led the winery until 1959, followed by Robert Weil, who was responsible for the winery until 1989. Since 1987 Wilhelm Weil leads the winery.
A partnership with Suntory
In 1988, the winery was acquired by the Japanese beverage company Suntory. The company expanded the vineyards and took over the modernization of the winery.
The art of growing Riesling
Robert Weil specializes in the Riesling grape variety. The vineyards are located exclusively in the Kiedrich district, including the renowned Kiedricher Gräfenberg site, classified as VDP Große Lage, as well as Kiedricher Klosterberg and Kiedricher Turmberg, both classified as VDP Erste Lage.
